Why You Need Protein

When learning about healthy eating, one of the most important nutrients is protein. Of course, all nutrients are crucial for our bodies to be as healthy as possible, but without protein in our diets every single day, our bodies will not be as strong as they should be. Protein can be found in a number of food sources, so if you’re interested in eating a healthier diet, you should consider learning more about protein.

We need to eat foods rich in protein every day because, unlike some other nutrients, it cannot be stored in the body. That means that if you eat more protein than necessary, your body will simply cause it to pass through your system. Therefore, you really can’t eat too much protein! However, because protein cannot be stored in the body problems may arise surrounding this nutrient as well. If you don’t get enough protein on any given day, your body has no back-up plan for producing protein on its own or using reserved protein from previous days. Therefore, protein is very important to consider when you are planning your meals.

Essentially, protein builds muscles, which is why you will see bodybuilders especially concerned with protein. When you lift weights to work out, you body makes tiny tears in the muscles. Proteins are then used to repair these healthy tears in the body, building the muscle slightly bigger with every workout. Even if you do not work out, your body’s muscle deteriorates, as you body needs the energy. Muscle provides energy, just like fat. Having protein in the body helps you to rebuild any muscle lost.Protein also helps a person’s body in other ways, mainly with the maintenance of hormones.

Hormones in the body do a number of things, such as regulate organ function, account for stimulation, create metabolism, and affect mood. Proteins are used in the making of some of these different hormones, so if you go more than a day or two without eating foods rich in proteins, your entire body will suffer. How can you make sure that you re getting enough proteins? Simply put, look for foods with protein as a key component on the label. Some great foods to consider include chicken, beef, pork, eggs, and fish, although vegetarians can also get proteins into their diets by eating nuts, beans, soy products, and a variety of other foods. You should have some of these foods in your diet every single day to ensure that you are providing your body with the proteins it needs to stay healthy.

Helping Children Eat Healthy Through Involvement

Toddlers and children alike can be one of the most fussiest eaters there are in the world! Getting them to eat healthy may be a huge mountain to scale especially if they already started off on the wrong foot. Most parents and guardians make a common mistake of introducing junk and not so nutritious foods and beverages in the first few years of the child's life. The problem with this is that those are the kinds of foods that they become accustomed to and want to have all the time. And one of the many problems with this kind of diet is the fact that it may lead to childhood obesity, which in itself has several adverse health and emotional effects such as type 2 diabetes (which by the way some 20 years ago was only heard of in adults) and low self esteem amongst many others.
The thing is, it's important to set the right example for our kids if we want them to lead healthy lifestyles long after they "leave the nest" and have their own families. As I'm sure you already know, children learn mostly from what they see and not from what they hear. In other words, they do what they see you doing and not necessarily what you say. So if you eat a lot of fast food and soda pops, it's most likely that they will too and fancy it over any other type of diet.
One of the ways you can help your children to eat healthy is to cook homemade healthy meals. It can be pretty hectic if you lead a busy life, but you can at least try and prepare a meal from home twice or three times a week. To add to the excitement, ask your kids to come help you to prepare the meal, they will most definitely have an interest in eating what they have prepared (messy job it will be, but greater benefits at the end). If you are to eat out, choose healthier options, with less fat, cholesterol, sodium and saturated fat. If these are consumed over and above one's recommended daily allowance, they may lead to health problems.
Another way would be to take a trip with them to the farmers' market and have them see all the various kinds of fruits and vegetables. They can even engage the farmers, asking them how the fruit or vegetable comes to be and the benefits it has for their growing bodies. In fact, you can even go to a farm sometime and have the kids see for themselves how the vegetables and fruits come to be. And if you have space in your backyard, you can grow your own fruits and vegetables and have the children take part. As has been said, knowledge is power, so giving your children information about the benefits of fruits and vegetables and all the other food groups will help a great deal. They will know why vegetables are good for them and it will cease from being just a command. They'll eat them all up without a fight.
Don't give up when after you've tried this and your children don't seem interested in eating healthy, give them time. If you stick to your guns, they'll have no choice but to comply and before you know it, they would have acquired the taste and enjoying their meals. Instead of giving them chocolates and crisps to snack on, give them vegetable strips (like carrots and cucumber, etc),fruits, raisins, dried fruit, etc. They may put up a fight at first and suffer some withdrawal symptoms if they were used to junk food, but they'll eventually go with the flow. And in the long run you'll all reap the great benefits.
Not that they can never have pizza or ice-cream or any of the junk food ever again. You may give them as treats here and there but remember that moderation is key here. Don't let them over-indulge. Also, variety is important. Give them a variety of the fruits and vegetables so they can enjoy the different tastes as well as get full nutrition.

Two Ways to Avoid the Negative Effects of TV on Your Health

At the end of a long day are you excited to sit down on the couch, unwind, and watch your favorite show? Next time you sit down be careful, you could be doing more harm to yourself than good!
How could this be possible? There are some days when lounging on the couch is my FAVORITE thing to do...especially after a long day and a good sweaty workout! Oh...bliss!
I recently saw a study from the American College of Sports Medicine that watching too much television can have a negative impact on your overall well-being. Well, of course - if you sit all the time - you aren't moving - so you aren't burning any calories and you are increasing your risk of disease. Got that much.
However, the study went on to say that even IF you are active, and you watch two hours of television a day you can see a negative impact on your overall fitness levels. YIKES!
After reading this I felt doomed - sometimes I do overreact a bit but its natural - especially when you find out that even though you are spending all this time in the gym you are still doing harm to your body!
So I took a deep breath and realized that yes, I probably was slightly overreacting -- so I decided to do a bit more research and found some interesting facts that helped to lessen the stress and will allow us to watch TV without affecting our overall well being.
Problem #1 -- Making Poor Food Choices While You Watch TV
This is probably one of the biggest mistakes we make while watching TV that can have a negative impact on our overall health, even if we went to the gym. In some cases its completely understandable -- when was the last time you saw a commercial for broccoli or vegetables that made you want to go running into your kitchen for a big salad or bag of carrots? NEVER!
We are more likely to make poor food choices and justify those poor food choices while watching TV because we are bombarded with commercials that encourage us to eat poorly. Every few minutes you see commercials for potato chips, sodas, burgers or another type of deliciously, unhealthy food. These commercials, plus the fact that we have been to the gym and have 'burned' calories, make it easier for us to justify eating unhealthy, therefore increasing our risk of harmful diseases.
Next time you see a commercial for chips, change the channel, so you won't be tempted by the messages to eat unhealthy.
Problem #2 -- Not Moving For Hours While You Watch TV
As I mentioned above, I look forward to sitting down on the couch at the end of a long day. Just sitting down and NOT MOVING. It's sometimes the BEST feeling.
However, this lack of moving is actually doing more harm that good, especially while watching TV. Researchers have found that when you watch TV you move less than you think, as you fall into an almost trance-like state of mind. This trance-like state of mind actually prevents you from making any type of movements that will do your body any good. Its fine to sit down and relax, but its important to keep the blood flowing, to ensure we stay healthy.
So, next time there is a commercial - get moving. Find a song you like in the commercial and start dancing to it. Or do a set of pushups or situps before your show comes back on - turn it into a challenge - can you do more situps this commercial than you did the commercial before? Adding these movements to your TV watching regimen will help you see more results to your physique while helping you decrease the risk of any diseases.

Detecting Leukemia in Your Child

Speaking of cancer it is human silent killer. It will attack uncontrollably if its number (cell) multiplies rapidly.
Once they form massively it gives negative effect on usual operation of the adjoining tissue. At this point of time there must be action on treating this problem. If this would not be treated well cancer cell would pass-through bloodstream reaching some body parts. This is what we call metastasis which is already very hard to control or to be cured.
We all have cancer cells scattered all over our body parts and no one spared of that silent killer. Young and old people can have it especially if our body immune system got weakens that could lower our resistance. Cancer problem on young generation are far more different than on older generations. The same medical procedures in fighting for it but different form when you look at it under the microscope. The chances are, younger generation responded better than the older one in terms of treatment.
Childhood and Adult Patients
Cancer is common on older people compared to younger people. Most likely mortality rate is higher on older people against younger ones. If we rate the chances of survival, 70% for the younger people and 30% for the elders. Sometimes it would goes up to 90% depends then on different types of cancer.
Reasons of Having Childhood Cancer
Cancer is not transmissible unlike AIDS. Disturbance to a cell's genes is one reason of cancer development.
On older people, one factor that contributed cancer is unhealthy lifestyle coming from different vices, carcinogen intake, too much sun exposure and a lot more. The reason of having childhood cancer is not yet known. There must be some reasons for this kind of cancer on our young generations but scientist never discovered yet what the cause is really.
Different types of Childhood Cancer
Leukemia: most common type of cancer on younger generation. There are more white blood cells than normal blood cells. These abnormal cell or leukemia developed earlier before reaching into maturity.
Different kinds of Leukemia
• Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL): The most common type victimizing usually children/young people. It would strike on bone morrow - which is our blood manufacturer. One common treatment is by Chemotherapy -a kind of drug that kills cancer cells. Another one is by radiotherapy - a high energy wave, like an x-ray. Survival rate of this kind of medication is greater than 70%.
• Acute myeloid leukemia (AML): Is less most common on younger generations though it can also be treated with chemotherapy and stem cell replacement. Chance of surviving is between 50% and 60%.
• Brain Tumors and Spinal Cord Tumors: This kind is second most common type of leukemia on affecting our younger children. In most cases casualty is greater than surviving from any form of medications because this is very hard to manage and be cured. It needs surgery as the first line of treatment and it depends on where the part of the central nervous system brains tumor grown-up. A series of chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions could inevitable happen as a sort of follow-up medications. There are few who would survive depending on the status of the tumor (stages 1, 2, 3,) and the type of tumor.

How Do You Lose Thigh Fat Fast? Effective Tips to Help You Lose Fat From Thighs

Losing fat is not easy to say the least and most people do not achieve permanent fat loss. It is a very difficult challenge, whether you want to lose fat from your tummy or lose thigh fat. But it is not impossible by any means and whether or not you succeed, depends really of you. Others can provide help and encouragement, but it is you, who eventually has to make it happen. I will provide you with some great information about losing thigh fat, but you must take action.

Do what works
There is no one simple solution to make it happen, like taking a pill. If you want to get toned, lean and sexy legs, then you must earn it. You can`t win sexy legs with a lottery. The person you see in the gym with great legs, has worked very hard to achieve them and so must you. One of the reasons why so many people are not able to achieve real success, is because they buy into the advertisement and the marketing.
Everything seems so easy on TV and magazines. The truth is that most of the diets, supplements, products and other fat loss stuff, are a complete waste of time and your money. If you want to lose thigh fat successfully, then look what most of the people are doing and do the opposite. If 95% of people, who fail with losing fat on thighs, then doing what they are doing is worthless, right?

Stop starving
Everyone knows that if you eat more calories than you consume, then the excess calories are stored as fat. So if you eat less calories than you burn then you should lose fat, right? Ideally this is true, but most people take this too far. It is normal to think that the less food you eat, the more weight you will lose. Everyone always wants to lose thigh fat or belly fat as fast as possible, so they go on very strict diets that basically punish themselves by starving themselves.
Well two things happen to you, when you cut your calories too low. Firstly, you can not stay on very low calories very long. Everyone has their breaking point and when it comes, you start eating everything you can and the effort you had put in is worthless. When your calories are too low, then eventually you will reach your breaking point. Secondly, your body actually slows down your metabolic rate, when calories are too low. That is why you are able to lose a lot of weight in the beginning of a diet and week by week the progress slows and stops.
The best solution is to cut your calories by a smaller amount, so you do not reach the breaking point. If you eat the right foods, then you can actually eat more foods that you thought possible. Of course your progress will not be as fast, but you will succeed. But if you want to lose thigh fat faster, you can always burn more calories with weight training and aerobic training. Burning calories with exercises is always superior to dieting. Unless you consume too many calories.

Keep the muscle
Muscle is your big friend, if you want to lose thigh fat. A lot of women are afraid to train with weights, because they think they will look "bulky." This is of course really ridiculous. The body has to spend a lot of calories to maintain muscle, so the less muscle you have the less calories you burn. Muscle also gives you the lean and toned legs, that you see in the magazines. Exercises like squats, leg presses, leg extensions and leg curls must be part of your workouts, if you want to lose thigh fat quickly and effectively.

Take minerals if you take vitamins.

Complement vitamins with minerals. The term "minerals" refers to elements in their simpleinorganic form. In nutrition they are commonly referred to as mineral elements or inorganicnutrients.

Minerals are vital to health. Like vitamins and amino acids, minerals are essential for regulatingand building the trillions of living cells which make up the body. Body cells receive the essentialfood elements through the blood stream. They must, therefore, be properly nourished with anadequate supply of all the essential minerals for the efficient functioning of the body.

Minerals help maintain the volume of water necessary to life processes in the body. They help
draw chemical substances into and out of the cells and they keep the blood and tissue fluid
from becoming either too acidic or too alkaline. The importance of minerals, like vitamins, is
illustrated by the fact that there are over 50,000 enzymes in the body which direct growth and
energy and each enzyme has minerals and vitamins associated with it. Each of the essential
food minerals does a specific job in the body and some of them do extra work, in teams, to
keep body cells healthy. The mineral elements which are needed by the body in substantial
amounts are calcium, phosphorous, iron, sulphur, magnesium, sodium, potassium and
chlorine. In addition the body needs minute (trace) amounts of iodine, copper, cobalt,
manganese, zinc, selenium, silicon, fluorine and some others.

Vitamin D Could Prevent Parkinsons

Parkinsons disease, a degenerative disorder, affects the central nervous system of the body and characterized by trembling in arms and disease Parkinson's, degenerative disorders, affecting the central nervous system of the body and is characterized by trembling in the arms and legs, muscle stiffness, slow movement, impaired balance or coordination. Although this condition was found long ago, the real reason for its development remains a mystery. However, one school of thought is that poor nutrition can worsen the underlying condition. In this context, a recent study has found an association between vitamin D and Parkinson's disease. Low levels of vitamin D may increase the risk of Parkinson's disease and high levels indicate a protective effect of the new study findings.

Vitamin D can prevent Parkinsons. The study conducted in Finland, northern latitude countries with limited sun exposure. People in these areas usually have low vitamin D level. The research team identified that the average serum level in the population is 50% of the optimal level of 75 to 80 nmol / L. This research was conducted by researchers from the National Institute for Health and Welfare in Finland. Researchers now believe that vitamin D is not only a vitamin, not a hormone that also has other uses other than just set the level of calcium and bone strength. The relationship between vitamin D levels are low and many are well-established long-term illness.

To study a possible link between vitamin D and Parkinson's, researchers surveyed a large population from the population registry. During the long period of follow-up to 29 years, 50 incidents of Parkinson's unpleasant identified. The research team measured the serum levels of vitamin D by using samples up ice. The study found that men with serum concentrations of vitamin D at least 50 nmol / L had a lower risk for Parkinson's disease compared with those with a value of less than 25 nmol / L.

The exact mechanism in which vitamin D may protect against Parkinson's is not completely understood. However, it has been argued that the possible protective role for antioxidant properties and neuro protective effect. Researcher agrees to see that further study is necessary before firm conclusions are made. This is important because too much the amount of vitamin D as supplements in individuals with normal levels may invite unnecessary toxicity. Excess vitamin D can lead to the development of kidney stones if taken over a long period of time. Vitamin D also is the oil-soluble vitamins are stored in the body. Excess amount of Vitamin D can also lead to poisoning of vitamin D. EGS, muscle rigidity, slowness of movement, impaired balance or coordination. Although this condition was discovered a long ago, the exact reason of its development Remains a Mystery. However, one school of thought Is That the underlying poor nutrition cans aggravate the condition. In this context, a recent study has found a Link Between Vitamin D and Parkinsons disease. Low vitamin D levels cans increase of the risk for Parkinson's and high levels showed a protective effect A new study finding.

The precise Mechanisms by which vitamin D Might protect from Parkinsons was not completely understood. However, it has been postulated That May be the protective role due to its antioxidant properties and neuro protective effects. The researcher Agreed to the view That needs more studies to be conducted before any firm conclusion is made. This is vital as too much amounts of vitamin D supplementation as individuals with normal levels in May invite unnecessary toxicity. Excess Vitamin D Could lead to the development of kidney stones if taken over a long period of time. Also Vitamin D is an oil soluble vitamin Hence is stored in the body. Excess amount of Vitamin D Could Also Lead to Vitamin D toxicity.
